Porreres is located in the southeast of Mallorca (Balearic Isles), in the Des Pla district. It borders the towns of Montuïri, Sant Joan, Villafranca de Bonany, Felanitx, Campos and Llucmajor.

The most predominant monuments of the town are: the parish church, the church of Saint Philip Neri, the Santuary of Montission, the Hospitalet chapel, and the chapel of the Santa Creu.

The principal feast days celebrated are those of Saint Roch, protector of the town (August 16) and its patrons Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist.

Other notable feast days are in connection to the Sanctuary of Montision, and Saint Philip Neri (May 26) and the parish church on the religious feasts of Christmas, Easter, Saint Roch, Saint John, etc.
Apart from religious feasts that are the backbone of town life there is the annual fair on the last Sunday of October with a major influx of visitors. The census indicates a population of about 4,500 inhabitants
